Itinerary
Leave Pippies Beachhouse 7am sharp, our Fraser Island Tours kicks off with a 20min barge ride from Inskip Point to Fraser Island.
Drive in awe up the first portion of 75 mile beach to Eurong. We then head inland towards Lake McKenzie
Arrive at Lake McKenzie and take a dip in these incredibly pure, clear waters. Words do not do this amazing lake any justice.
Drive to Central Station where we eat lunch and walk along the waters of the very special Wanggoolba Creek. Learn Fraser Island’s history in a time before this beautiful island was protected. We then leave for a drive back to 75-mile beach and onto Pippies camp.
Arrive at our incredible campsite and chill after a long day.
Dinner time! Cook a BBQ together with your new Fraser Family and spend the night socialising together next to a campfire or under the covered seating area.
Following lunch back at camp, we’ll visit Eli Creek to float down its clear waters.
Then, a short drive takes us to the iconic Maheno shipwreck against the stunning colored sands as the sun sets. Our last stop is The Pinnacles to admire the vibrant sand formations before returning to Pippies camp for a chicken stir-fry dinner and stargazing.
Start your last day in paradise with breakfast before heading to Lake Wabby. It’s a 40-45 minute walk through bushland onto the Hammerstone Sandblow to reach Fraser Island’s deepest lake. Take a refreshing dip and relax on its shores.
After a beachside lunch, we’ll begin our journey back to Rainbow Beach, hunting for Eugarie and learning the meaning of “Pippies” along the way. Expect to arrive back at Pippies Beachhouse between 1pm and 5:30pm, depending on tides. You can catch a bus directly to Pippies Beachhouse from Noosa or Brisbane to start your Fraser Island 4WD adventure!
FAQs & Tour Information
To get behind the wheel of our custom Pippies 4x4s, you must be at least 21 years old and have held a valid, full open car driver’s license for a minimum of 1 year. If your license is not written in English, make sure you bring an official International Driving Permit (IDP) alongside your physical home-country license!
No! Many K’gari tag-along operators force young drivers to put down a massive $500 to $1,000 cash or credit card security bond on check-in day. Pippies does not charge a credit card security bond to drive our vehicles, making it the most stress-free and budget-friendly option for backpackers.
This is a massive value addon fully included in your ticket! Because the tour departs from Pippies Beachhouse in Rainbow Beach at 7:00 AM sharp on Day 1, you get a complimentary hostel night stay the evening right before the tour kicks off. This ensures you are fully rested and ready for the early morning safety briefing!
You don’t have to worry about setting up tents in the dark! Pippies features a private, permanently set-up campsite on K’gari. It comes fully equipped with spacious tents, comfortable mattresses, a large covered communal cooking/social area, a nightly campfire, and access to hot showers and proper flushing toilets.
Yes, absolutely! You are welcome to bring alcohol along for the nightly camp social sessions. However, K’gari National Park rules strictly ban glass bottles and red wine from the campsite. Stick to cans of beer, cider, pre-mixes, or boxed wine (goon), which can be easily packed into the vehicle coolers.
Space inside the 4×4 tag-along vehicles is strictly reserved for passengers, food, and camping supplies. You are only allowed to bring a small day bag or reusable tote with your clothes and toiletries for the island. Your main large travel pack can be stored safely and securely at Pippies Beachhouse in Rainbow Beach for free while you are away!
