Seeing a majestic whale in the wild is an ultimate must-do. Sydney offers one of Australia’s best vantage points, with the best tours putting you right in the action.
Watch Humpbacks migrate past Sydney Harbour on a spacious catamaran, or get closer on a high-speed ocean safari. Whatever you choose, you’ll remember it forever!
Check out our Sydney whale watching deals below.
Our high speed allows us to cover massive ground, giving us a 97% sighting success rate. However, if no whales are spotted during your safari, you will receive a 100% FREE return cruise voucher to try again another day!
Tours do go out into the open Pacific Ocean where there can be swells. If you are prone to motion sickness, we highly recommend taking a preventative seasickness tablet from a pharmacy about an hour before boarding so you can comfortably enjoy the tour!
Even if it’s a beautifully sunny, warm day in Sydney, it gets surprisingly windy and chilly once the boat breaks out past the harbour heads into the open ocean. Make sure to dress in comfortable layers, bring a windproof or warm jacket, wear enclosed flat shoes (no flip-flops/thongs on deck!), and don’t forget your sunglasses!
Whether you’re watching whales from shore or out at sea, we recommend wearing sunglasses and sunscreen to help protect your eyes and skin from the sun, wind and glare.
And of course, don’t forget a phone or camera to capture the experience! Please keep in mind this is an open water experience and there is a chance of water spray. Any personal devices are brought onboard at your own risk.
The whale watching season in Sydney runs from May to November, as over 40,000 majestic humpback whales make an epic 10,000km migration from Antarctica up to warmer waters and back!
May – August: Whales are heading north—expect to see energetic males showing off with spectacular ocean breaches and massive tail slaps.
August – November: Whales are heading back south. This is the absolute best time to spot mothers swimming close to the coast, teaching their adorable newborn calves how to swim and play!
Our tours depart daily from Circular Quay or Darling Harbour (right in the heart of Sydney’s CBD). It couldn’t be easier to reach us—you can jump straight off the train, light rail, or local ferry and walk right up to the wharf. You’ll get to cruise past the iconic Sydney Opera House and underneath the Harbour Bridge on your way out to the open ocean!
