  • Swim at Streets Beach in South Bank, a free man-made lagoon with sand and lifeguards 🏖️
  • Stroll the South Bank Parklands and the riverside paths
  • Relax in the City Botanic Gardens by the river

Getting around is cheap too: most Translink trips are a 50 cent flat fare (see below).

  • Translink runs the trains, buses, ferries (including the CityCat) and trams in South East Queensland 🚌
  • Tap on and tap off with a go card or your contactless debit or credit card. Fares are currently a 50 cent flat rate per journey (the Airtrain isn’t included)
  • Don’t forget to tap off, or you may be charged a default fare

The Airtrain runs from both the domestic and international terminals straight to Central and Roma Street stations in the city ✈️ It isn’t part of the 50 cent fare, so check the price on the Airtrain website.

  • Moreton Island (Mulgumpin): snorkel the Tangalooma Wrecks and explore big sand dunes. The passenger ferry to Tangalooma leaves from Holt Street Wharf, Pinkenba. Go with a guided tour or the day pass and ferry.
  • North Stradbroke Island (Minjerribah): walk the North Gorge Walk at Point Lookout and look out for turtles, dolphins and manta rays, plus humpbacks from June to November. Ferries leave from Cleveland. Our day tour includes the ferry crossing.

Can’t decide? Do both, they’re very different days out 😎

Humpback whales visit Moreton Bay from about June to October 🐋 August and September are great for mums and calves, which tend to linger. Book a whale watching cruise during the season.

2 to 3 nights is enough for the city, South Bank and a koala cruise. Add a day for each island or Australia Zoo trip. Brisbane is also a good stop between Byron Bay and Noosa on the East Coast.
