Waltzing Matilda is a 2 day / 1 night sailing trip through the Whitsunday Islands on the Great Barrier Reef, run by Explore Whitsundays. Capped at a maximum of just 14 guests, it’s a Fully Guided trip with a skipper and crew looking after you from start to finish.
Swim at famous Whitehaven Beach, bushwalk up to the Hill Inlet Lookout to see the swirling sands, and snorkel top reef spots with snorkel gear, a wetsuit and tuition all included. Keen to get hands-on? Help the crew pull up the sails and have a go at driving the boat!
Meals and snacks are freshly prepared on board with local produce, and the wide, flat decks have shade awnings for chilling out between swims. Private cabins are available as well as shared cabin options. This trip is for ages 18+.
Alcohol is BYO and soft drinks are sold on board, so pack your favourite drinks in a soft, zipless bag and get ready for a relaxed small-group sail! 🌴

Itinerary
Day 1: Sail, Snorkel & Sunset ⛵
Meet under The Boathouse Apartments (marina side) on Port Drive, Airlie Beach, for an 8:30 AM departure. Sail out from the marina to Hook Passage or Border Island and jump in to snorkel the coral reefs. Refuel with lunch on board, then head in for a second snorkel at Peter’s Bay. Finish the day kicking back on deck to watch the sunset.
Day 2: Hill Inlet & Whitehaven Beach 🏝️
Bushwalk up to the Hill Inlet Lookout to see the famous swirling sands from above, then spend time on Whitehaven Beach. Squeeze in one last snorkel on the sail home, arriving back at the marina by 4:00 PM.

Yes! Your skipper and crew run the whole trip, with a maximum of 14 guests on board. Snorkel tuition is included, and you can help pull up the sails and have a go at driving the boat if you’re keen.

Waltzing Matilda departs on Sunday, Tuesday and Thursday at 8:30 AM from under The Boathouse Apartments (marina side) on Port Drive, Airlie Beach. You’re back at the marina by 4:00 PM on day 2. There are no pickups, so make your own way to the marina.
There’s no luggage storage on the boat or at the marina, so pack light in a soft, zipless bag. Bring swimwear, a towel, hat, sunscreen, sunglasses, a camera, a warm layer (in winter), a raincoat, a change of clothes, comfy shoes, toiletries and cash for anything you buy on board.
