Yes, on a tag-along tour. You drive in a convoy behind your guide after a safety briefing 🚙 To drive on our tours you need to be 21 or older with a full licence held for at least 1 year (Dingos, Pippies) or 2 years (K’gari Safari, the 3 day tour from Noosa, Pink 4WD). Dingos ask for a manual licence. Bring your original licence, not a copy, and an International Driving Permit if it isn’t in English.
Don’t want to drive? Ride as a passenger, or choose a fully guided coach tour like the day tours or the Explorer.

No. The ocean beaches aren’t patrolled and there are rips and sharks 🦈 There are no patrolled swimming spots anywhere on the island, so take care everywhere.
Swim in the freshwater lakes and creeks instead, like Lake McKenzie and Eli Creek. Don’t dive in, and never run, roll or slide down the sand dune at Lake Wabby: people have been seriously injured there.

  • Never feed or attract a wongari (dingo). It’s illegal and the fines are heavy 🐾
  • Walk in groups and don’t run or jog. Running can make a dingo chase you
  • Don’t take food or drinks (other than water) to the lake shores
  • Keep food and rubbish locked inside the vehicle, never in your tent

Your guide will brief you on arrival.

On 7 June 2023 the island officially got back its Butchulla name, K’gari. It’s pronounced “GUR-rie” and means paradise 🌿
It’s the largest sand island in the world, about 122 km long, and it’s World Heritage-listed for its rainforest growing on sand and its freshwater dune lakes.

Our multi-day 4WD tours include the barge or ferry, national park and vehicle permits, fuel, meals and camping gear or a bed. Check the inclusions on each tour.

  • Your original driver’s licence if you want to drive
  • Swimmers, a towel, sunscreen, a hat and insect repellent ☀️
  • A rain jacket and warm clothes in winter
  • Closed shoes and a water bottle
  • Drinks in cans: most camping tours don’t allow glass
